Maslow – Hierarchy of Needs
Posted by Emanuel in Organizational Behavior | 0 comments
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is very intuitive. It just feels right. These needs include:
- Physiological needs – survival
- Safety needs – security
- Belongingness needs – part of a community of two or many
- Esteem needs – need of social recognition
- Self-actualization needs – purpose
Motivation of an employee comes with the satisfaction for the need as a certain level. In the same time the person will focus on the needs at a superior level and dissatisfaction will re-emerge. A new motivational factor will be required.
What I find interesting is that later Maslow added more needs at the top of the pyramid:
- The need to know and understand
- The need for aesthetic beauty
- Self-transcendence – the need to help others
